I am a part time, online global health masters student looking to kickstart their career in the health sector. I have a first class degree in social anthropology and wrote a dissertation entitled 'Obesity and Public Health in Contemporary Society'. I have a genuine interest in global health and a broad range of health research. I am highly motivated with varied work experience and excellent communication skills. I would love to find a stimulating and dynamic job where I can contribute to the progression of global health.
An economist with experience as a Financial Stability Analyst at the Bank of Botswana, I am adept in data analysis, forecasting, and reporting. Moreover, while my on-the-job experience has afforded me a well-rounded skill set, including calculating risks exposures across all commercial bank’s assets and liability portfolios in Botswana using stress tests and economic models, assessing mortgage portfolios to determine risks and remedies across commercial banks in Botswana and preparing applied economic research papers. I excel at:
- Completing descriptive and multivariate analysis of complex data.
- Preparing documentation, presentations, and models.
- Measuring a range of economic data across industry.
- Providing media and public relations services with appearances and talks.
I have eight years of experience in improving healthcare in Malawi, with leadership roles in the provision of high-quality HIV prevention, care and support services, and related mitigation interventions, emphasizing referral and linkages for continuity of care. Applying my Master’s and B.Sc. degrees in Public Health, a Diploma in Clinical Medicine, and certification as a Project Management Development Professional (PMD Pro), I have extensive experience in technical capacity building of local organizations and health facilities through mentoring, direct training and training of trainers in all positions with the Ministry of Health, the Baylor College of Medicine Pediatric AIDS Foundation, and the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF). My work on large-scale HIV testing programs in Malawi includes my current role as District Team Lead on the CDC/PEPFAR program, Achieving HIV Epidemic Control through Scaling Up Quality Testing, Care and Treatment in Malawi.
I have state-of-the-art expertise in HIV testing approaches in high prevalence settings, including active index testing and HIV self-testing. Notably, as Pediatric Technical Officer on the PEPFAR Accelerating Children's HIV/AIDS Treatment (ACT) Initiative (2015-2017), I led a “Know Your Partner’s Status” campaign, and followed up by phone with contacts of the index client. A monthly Teen Club I organized at Mzuzu Central Hospital and Mzuzu Health Centre attracted adolescents, who were provided medical consultation and assessment in addition to prevention education on HIV and other sexually-transmitted infections (STI). I was part of a team that implemented the study circles project that successfully engaged chiefs and community leaders to improve prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) and bring men in for testing by enacting policies such as requiring pregnant women to be accompanied by their husbands at antenatal care clinic visits, where both parents were oriented on HIV testing services (HTS).
I interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels. In my current role I lead quarterly review meetings with District Health Management Teams (DHMT) and MOH staff, organizes key partner meetings, and participates in quarterly District Executive Committee meetings and other key stakeholder meetings. I participate in national-level ART/TB supervision visits, zonal review meetings, and dissemination conferences, and serves on technical working groups such as HTS. For the ACT Initiative, I provided technical support to MOH mentorship teams while building staff capacity to provide ongoing support to facilities providing pediatric and adolescent HIV services. To increase treatment enrollment in resource-challenged settings, I trained facility- and district-level quality improvement teams and tested changes such as client escort to ART clinics by HTS counselors and follow-up of HIV-positive clients who didn’t immediately start ART, resulting in a 98% rate of linkage to treatment. My strong interpersonal skills are exemplified by my facilitation of an amicable resolution to a conflict between staff of MOH staff and Luwani Prison after MOH staff stopped providing ART, TB and STI screening, and other health services.
