A Social Media and Communications Coordinator is required within the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine’s (LSHTM)Communications & Engagement team lead the institution’s social media activity in order to enhance our profile and protect our reputation. The role also works closely with the Media Manager and Press & Communications Officer to assist in the day-to-day running of LSHTM’s busy and dynamic press office. Applicants must have experience of working in a press, marketing or communications role, ideally within a higher education, health or science environment.
Reporting to the Media Manager, the post holder will be responsible for managing LSHTM’s main social media platforms on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn, and producing creative digital content (including infographics, photos, videos and memes) to engage effectively with our high-profile communities and promote our leading expertise and activity.
The successful applicant will also monitor and evaluate social and traditional media, alerting colleagues to reputational issues, advising staff on social media tactics and tools, and producing engaging analytics reports.
In addition to social media and digital activity, the post holder will respond to requests for information or interviews from print and broadcast media, support staff in their interactions with journalists and coordinate and supervise TV filming on LSHTM premises. The post holder will be required to use and maintain specialised administrative systems within the press office and complete core support tasks to ensure an efficient service.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for social media, show an understanding of ‘news sense’, excellent communication skills and a methodical, thorough and organised approach.
This position requires a proven ability to take initiative, meet tight deadlines, juggle competing priorities and work without close supervision, as well as the diplomatic and persuasive skills to work well in a small and dynamic team.
The post is full time and fixed-term until July 2020 to cover maternity leave. The salary will be on the Professional salary scale Grade 4 in the range £29,854 – £33,959 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Director’s Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine
