Project Overview and Role

The Sr. Manager, Business Development –
Colombia will develop and implement a growth strategy, and oversee the
identification and pursuit of growth areas for Palladium in Colombia building a
pipeline of USAID and other donor opportunities.  The Sr. Manager, Business Development – Colombia
will also build relationships with USAID, other clients, teaming partners and government
stakeholders; participate in conferences; and regularly liaise and coordinate
with other senior leaders across the organization. The Sr. Manager, Business
Development – Colombia must have depth and breadth of business development
experience and demonstrated proven success winning new business in the USAID
market. This position is based out of Bogota, Colombia. 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities 

The primary responsibilities of the Sr. Manager, Business Development – Colombia
are:

  • Win large donor-funded projects in Palladium’s technical core and growth areas
  • Identify a strong pipeline of winnable opportunities in Colombia
  • Build relationships with USAID and other clients, government stakeholders and partners
  • Lead the proposal development and writing process
  • Ensure that the opportunity capture process, from lead generation through submission, is strategic, efficient, grounded in the Colombian context, and that proposals meet the highest standards of quality and compliance
  • Provide strategic insights and leadership to proposal writers and the bid writing process
  • Demonstrate and model good judgement in the strategic decision-making process, including strategic partnering
  • Identify potential business opportunities at an early stage by analyzing funding trends and project cycles in target geographies and strategic technical areas
  • Engage with the USAID Mission to understand USAID priorities and gather intelligence on upcoming procurements
  • Build a network of strong Colombian teaming partners
  • Represent Palladium in conferences, other external forums, and events
  • Liaise and coordinate with other senior leaders across Palladium
  • Contribute to regular knowledge-sharing and strategy sessions
  • Support the start-up of any new contracts won in Colombia

The Sr. Manager, Business Development – Colombia must also work closely
with Palladium’s communications team to:

  • Make effective use of social media channels to optimize external awareness of Palladium’s unique offerings
  • Develop effective marketing materials consistent with Palladium’s corporate branding specifications

Reporting requirements

The role reports to the Senior Director for Strategic
Growth based in Washington, DC.  The role
will work collaboratively with relevant Portfolio Leads and Palladium Colombia Country
Manager. Reporting requirements include:

  • Attendance at all regular management team meetings
  • Provision of regular updates to the line manager, including status of Key Result Areas (KRAs)
  • Identification of clear and accurate data of opportunities including, pipeline data and contributions to Portfolio and corporate reporting
  • Other reporting as requested by the line manager

Required Qualifications:

  • Subject matter expertise in economic growth, livelihoods, migration, workforce development, environment/Climate Change, agribusiness, health or other key USAID sectors
  • Extensive experience leading business development, targeting USAID and other major donors
  • Proven track record of winning large contracts and grants
  • Experience living and working in Colombia
  • Strong networking capabilities with major donors in Colombia, especially USAID, FCDO, the Government of Colombia and private sector leaders
  • Ability to foster successful partnership approaches and relationships among a variety of organizations/institutions
  • Proven ability to build strong professional relationships and networks
  • Strong management and team-building skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking ability
  • Collaborative and entrepreneurial orientation
  • Strong writing and presentation skills in English and Spanish as well as attention to detail and quality
  • Fluency in English and Spanish languages are mandatory
  • Ability to work in Colombia
  • Knowledge of environmental and financial regulation in Colombia is a strong asset
