Profile of the Organization:

Zanmi Lasante (ZL) is a Haitian organization based in Cange, Central Plateau (Haiti) with administrative offices in Santo, Port-au-Prince. ZL is a well-known not-for-profit organization, the mission of which is to providea preferential option to the poor in healthcare. ZL works closely with its sister organization Partners In Health (PIH), based in Boston, United States, to bring the benefits of modern medical science to those most in need of them and to serve as an antidote to despair. PIH delivers clinical services, training and research programs in 11 countries (Haiti, Peru, Russia, Rwanda, Lesotho, Malawi, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Mexico, Kazakhstan, Navajo Nation) and has a growing number of affiliated organizations and initiatives in many other countries such as Nepal, Burundi, Mali, Guatemala and Togo.

The organization works relentlessly to bring solutions to important challenges while its growing exposure is accelerating important changes in existing programs such as HIV and TB, maternal and child health, nutrition, health promotion and community health, mental health, non-communicable diseases, etc. ZL is always actively seeking new, qualified and talented individuals to join its team and further its mission.

Project Background:

ZL recently launched an initiative funded by UN Women to fundamentally reduce gender-based violence (GBV) and increase human rights and fundamental freedoms for women and girls in Haiti.  The project aims to build on existing ZL interventions focused on the prevention of, and response to GBV, thereby accelerating progress towards gender equality and a world free from violence.The intervention seeks to implement evidence-based, gender-transformative programming that will build the capacity of women’s associations, and improve the availability, accessibility, acceptability and quality of GBV services available within ZL’s catchment area.  The project model is informed by the experiences of Haitian communities and was developed with their support. The intervention will serve an area of 1.3 millionpeople and will provide 3,350 women, men, boys and girls with prevention services, treatment, care, and response against GBV.

Description of theposition:

The Gender Equity Specialist will work collaboratively with the Director of Mental Health, the Women’s Health Advisor, the GBV team, the GBV Task-Force, and will be responsible for guiding the integration of principles of gender equality and women’s empowerment into the project and ZL’s GBV programming more broadly. The Gender Equity Specialist will be responsible for building the capacity of staff and community organizations in gender equality and human rights; ensuring that the design, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of ZL’s GBV programming capture and respond to the specific needs of women and men, challenge discriminatory gender norms, and reduce barriers to gender equality.

Responsibilities:

The Gender Equity Specialistwill be specifically in charge of:

• Reviewing ZL gender strategy and tools implemented by the gender equity task force.
• Developing training modules on gender equity in collaboration with the gender equity task force.
• Supporting project staff to incorporateprinciples of gender equality and women’s empowerment into the design, delivery, monitoring, evaluation and reporting of project activities;
• Revising and adaptinga sexuality education curriculum to align with international standards for comprehensive sexuality education for adolescents aged 15 to 24 years;
• Training facilitators of the adolescent clubs on the newly revised curriculum;
• Training women associations to promote gender equality through the use of tools for social analysis and action;
• Train women’s associations on human rights;
• Training representatives of women’s organization to facilitate trainings on gender and human rights;
• Supporting the training of women’s associations on project management;
• Providing technical support to women associations to develop annual workplans;
• Providing technical support throughout the development of a curriculum for a GBV support group, while ensuring that this curriculum is rooted in principles of gender equality and human rights;
• Supporting the training of surveillance committees on gender equality and human rights;
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

 
Qualifications:

• Masters or advanced degree in gender studies, global health, sociology, social work or other related disciplines;
• Minimum of five years’ experience in the delivery, management and/or provision of technical support to programs related to gender equality, with a focus on children and youth preferred;
• Proven tracked record in the design and delivery of gender-transformative programming with community organizations, health centers and/or adolescents;
• Proven aptitude to develop and facilitate workshops on gender equality, human rights, sexual and reproductive health;
• Proven ability to work with and reinforce women’s associations in Haiti;
• Excellent writing and communication skills;
• Excellent ability to plan and manage competing priorities in order to meet deadlines;
• Exemplary interpersonal relationship skills; ability to collaborate with a staff of diverse backgrounds and cultures;
• Strong interest for social justice;
• Detail-oriented;
• Professional skills in French; English is a plus;
