Abt Associates seeks a qualified Fund Manager to support the anticipated five-year USAID-funded project managing a capital fund for Frontier Health Markets. This project will utilize US government resources as catalytic capital to leverage private sector investment in the health care space in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. The position will be based in Abt’s Rockville, Maryland office and is contingent upon project award.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Serve as fund manager for a large capital fund making equity and debt investments in private healthcare companies in frontier and emerging economies.
Develop and implement an investment strategy that balances client expectations for financial performance and social impact
Supervise a team and play a leading role in: developing pipeline, analyzing opportunities, deploying capital, and portfolio management
Oversee the management of investments and exits
Assure that the fund maintains internal controls sound investment procedures and internal controls
Experience managing equity and/or debt funds, ideally in the healthcare sector
Experience in and networks across impact investing and social entrepreneurship in low- and middle-income markets
Established knowledge of innovative financing instruments and mezzanine capital
Established knowledge of global health and healthcare business models
Excellent managerial, organizational, oral and written communication skills, and proven leadership abilities within a multi-partner initiative.
Strong written and verbal communication skills;
Excellent interpersonal, diplomacy, and leadership skills, including the ability to manage high-level relationships and motivate subordinates across large geographies
Fluency in English is required; experience in a second language is preferred
MA/MBA (13 – 15) years of experience OR PhD (8 – 10) years of experience OR the equivalent combination of education and experience
