Job Description

Opportunity Summary

The Local Health System Sustainability (LHSS) project, a USAID-funded global health system strengthening project, seeks a Digital Communications Specialist to join the LHSS Communications and Knowledge Management team. This position will be responsible for LHSS social media design and strategy, will provide management and platform support for Webex virtual events and meetings, and will serve as webmaster for the LHSS website. The Digital Communications Specialist will work to coordinate and align workflows with other communications priorities and will proactively engage with technical teams on content development and dissemination, and other requests. This position will be responsible for establishing systems to ensure continuous improvement and adaptation, to include regular analytics, pause and reflects, and UX research. This is a full-time position based in Rockville, MD with remote working in line with latest Abt guidance.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

Serve as chief social media copywriter, pulling from blogs, reports, and staff interviews to write posts for LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter, and focusing on clear, engaging language.

Provide graphical support for posts by creating graphics in Canva or Spark, choosing stock/in-house imagery, or by liaising with Abt’s internal creative agency.

Serve as social media community manager, monitoring our social channels and acting as a resource for follower questions, messages, or comments.

Develop social media marketing channel strategy and analytics.

Keep an “ear to the ground” to monitor trends on the social/wider web with our client and other large global health projects.

Enter updates, news and resources to LHSS Drupal site. Coordinate with Abt IT team to identify and implement site upgrades, as necessary.

Manage virtual meetings and webinars. Work with technical team and presenters to manage timeline, develop invitations, review presentations, lead dry-runs, and provide platform training and support.

Prepare post-event reports and communications. Upload video files to YouTube.

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate is on top of social media trends and possesses a knack for creatively utilizing Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and LinkedIn in new ways to engage and inspire diverse audiences. The Social Media Marketing Manager will be well versed in the analysis of social media metrics and able to identify trends and drive new and innovative engagement efforts as a result of these metrics.

The Digital Communications Specialist will be capable of managing multiple open deliverables and balancing multiple priorities. He/she/they will also be creative and resourceful, devising strategies to feature multiple technical areas and countries throughout the year, across platforms, while maintaining a steady pipeline of engaging content that promotes LHSS activities. He/she/they takes steps to ensure all external communications respect client guidelines and requirements, and effectively reflect key messages for LHSS.

5-7 years’ experience in marketing and/or communications (social marketing preferred).

Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, communications, or public health.

Experience working as part of a Communications team supporting USAID contracts, global health preferred.

Demonstrated excellence in writing and proficiency in basics of graphic design.

Strong communication and time-management skills.

Experience with paid social media buying, Canva, Google Analytics, JIRA/project management software, Adobe Creative Suite.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree + Five years of relevant experience, or Master’s Degree + Three years of relevant experience, or PhD
