Project Overview and Role:

The Digital
Solutions and Transformation Portfolio within the Data Informatics and
Analytical Solutions (DIAS) Community of Practice is seeking a Communications
Specialist to lead communications activities on an upcoming global project to
support USAID’s Digital Strategy and Implementation. The goal of the project is
meant to increase adoption and support implementation across the Agency’s
technical and regional sectors. The DIAS Practice is a dynamic and innovative
group with talented and passionate members, working together to strengthen and
harness digital and data ecosystems to accelerate development investments and
outcomes and create positive impact. 

The Communications Specialist will play an
integral role shaping the way international development work is done, pushing
the needle to shift us from doing digital for development towards doing
development in a digital world. The Communications Specialist will oversee a communications strategy
across the project for both internal and external audiences. Importantly, the Communications
Specialist will use innovative communication approaches that leverage digital platforms
and technologies to tailor messages and reach diverse audiences. The Communication Specialist should have demonstrated experience translating
complicated technical content into accessible and inclusive concepts.

This is a full-time position based in Washington, DC
and is contingent upon award.

 Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 

The Communications
Specialist will have the following roles and responsibilities:

  • Develop and lead the implementation of a communication strategy that leverages multiple media to produce strategic documents, thought leadership pieces, technical resources, and training materials for buy-in clients.
  • Serve as the focal point for communicating project offerings, activities and results to both internal and external audiences.
  • Lead the development and oversee a system for generating project performance reports, success stories, project presentations, and other public communication pieces.
  • Establish and oversee the project’s digital presence, including website, social media accounts and/or contribute material and information for third-party websites.
  • Lead the strategy for though leadership opportunities that include global conferences, policy dialogues and other fora where project messages can disseminated.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in communications, preferably in the fields of digital development, technology, cybersecurity, and/or digitalization.
  • Experience in producing visually compelling products that leverage multimedia and graphic design best practices.
  • Extensive experience in senior level project management; experience with USAID digital transformation programs is an asset
  • Excellent written and spoken English and ability to communicate across technical disciplines and non-technical audience required
  • Experience communicating across various social media platforms.
  • Ability to present data, results, impact, and information in a compelling way to difference audiences.
  • Professional fluency in additional languages preferred (e.g. French, Spanish, Portuguese)
