Overview of CHAI’s Global Vaccines Program:

To ensure all children have access to effective and affordable immunization, addressing the main causes of child mortality, CHAI’s Vaccines Markets Team works with vaccine manufacturers, Gavi and other global stakeholders to improve availability, affordability, and diversity of supply for existing and future Gavi vaccines. In doing this, CHAI is applying the techniques it has used successfully to improve access to HIV/AIDS and malaria treatment: improving market demand transparency for individual suppliers and working closely with these suppliers to optimize their commercial, costing and pricing strategies in low and middle income markets, to ensure availability of vaccines, keep prices in these markets affordable, yet commercially sustainable.

Given the urgency of COVID-19 vaccine introductions globally, CHAI is currently working closely with COVAX. COVAX is the vaccines pillar of the Access to COVID-19 Tools (ACT) Accelerator. The ACT Accelerator is a ground-breaking global collaboration to accelerate the development, production, and equitable access to COVID-19 tests, treatments, and vaccines. COVAX is co-led by Gavi, the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) and WHO. Its aim is to accelerate the development and manufacture of COVID-19 vaccines, and to guarantee fair and equitable access for every country in the world. Position Overview:

CHAI is seeking a Manager to join a small team of 3 people who are supporting COVAX on its communications with participating economies and across partners. As COVAX is moving into the delivery phase an increase in communication with participants is foreseen. Timely, nuanced, and consistent communication with participating economies is critical to support them manage the inherent uncertainties and plan for vaccine introduction to the best of their ability.

Staff are embedded in the COVAX Country Communications Team; its core responsibilities are focused on the development and implementation of an integrated, long-term country communication plan and executing on this plan: instituting regular communications to governments, managing online knowledge sharing platforms, and ensuring communications across all COVAX partners are consistent and streamlined. The Country Communications Team does not take ownership over decisions but will help to translate decisions into clear and consistent communications to participating economies and country-facing staff.

This position may also be based in a CHAI program country pending CHAI country leadership approval. For qualified candidates, the team can consider candidates at the Senior Manager level, which will be discussed during the interview process. This position is funded through December 31, 2021 with the possibility of renewal, contingent on funding.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities of the Manager include but are not limited to the following:

Oversee overall project progress and ensure balance between supporting immediate COVAX priorities and long-term project deliverables

Manage relationships with key stakeholders in COVAX and partners

Manage content that is being shared with partners and participants via several communications channels; e.g. dissemination of content and updates via online portal, websites and other channels while ensuring consistency and version control

Draft communications (e.g., presentations) to be shared with COVAX participants and country-facing teams

Connect and coordinate with partners to help establish and manage consistent information sharing as well as coordinating the interfaces across communication channels

Support team with brainstorming and solving key design questions on country communications for COVAX

Other responsibilities as needed

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and at least 7 years of work experience, including at least 3 years of management experience

Experience in drafting concise messages for internal and external communication across channels (content hubs, newsletter, websites, formal letters etc.)

Entrepreneurial mindset, including ability to work independently, self-motivate, and propose and implement new initiatives

Strong commitment to CHAI’s and the team’s mission, dedicated team player

Experience working in public relations/corporate communication or strategy consulting.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in the vaccines or pharmaceutical industry, global health or global development is considered a plus

Experience living and working in LMICs

Advanced degrees in management, public health, science, or other relevant fields
