The Task Force for Global Health is an Emory University affiliate located in Decatur, GA. Its seventeen programs focus on building durable public health systems that serve all people. The Task Force consists of programs and focus areas that cover a range of global health issues including neglected tropical dis-eases, infectious diseases, vaccines, field epidemiology, public health informatics, health workforce development, and global health ethics. All our programs have an end goal in sight of eliminating diseases and protecting the health of populations. The Task Force received the 2016 Conrad N. Hilton Humanitarian Prize-the world’s largest award of its kind-in recognition of its extraordinary contributions to alleviating human suffering.

PHII BACKGROUND: The Public Health Informatics Institute (PHII) is a program of the Task Force for Global Health, a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization. Our staff is comprised of professionals in the areas of public health, healthcare, information systems and communications—all well-versed in the current and emerging issues facing public health. PHII is known for its expertise as a neutral convener of public health professionals and their stake-holders, transforming health practitioners’ ability to apply information effectively in order to improve health out-comes worldwide. The Communications Manager is responsible for providing a broad range of communications services and support to the PHII team, serving as an internal communications consultant for projects, programs and services.


Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Communications, coordinates with PHII staff and clients to develop and implement integrated communication plans to enhance awareness and utilization of PHII’s programs and services among specific targeted audiences.

Recognizes communications opportunities and effectively collaborates with stakeholders to define/execute appropriate strategies to support them.

Assists in the identification, development and promotion of knowledge products.

Originates written materials which support PHII’s programs, including, but not limited to, training materials, briefs and fliers, articles, manuscripts, newsletters, and website content, maintaining a consistent, high quality image of PHII, its programs, services, and products.

Contributes to development of product positioning, providing content for marketing and collateral materials, creating effective promotional materials including articles, briefs, forms and flyers.

Supports goals, objectives and requirements of PHII as a whole, and of its individual projects, through the development of training materials, white papers, case studies, press releases, presentations, website copy, e-newsletters, blog postings, etc., ensuring consistency and accuracy in production and sustaining high quality content.

Supports the design, implementation and maintenance of PHII’s website and other e-communications vehicles to educate and to promote the activities, programs and products of the Institute. Manages the program’s social media channels (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube).

Conducts interviews/surveys, and participates in workgroups, events and meetings as appropriate to support project/product needs.

Provides communications expertise to PHII staff, program grantees and affiliated project teams.

Maintains professional growth by participating in educational programs, professional organizations and activities to maintain knowledge of national trends.

Represents PHII as requested at national meetings, with national organizations, and with various stakeholders and partners.

Participates in international, national, and domestic scientific conferences and other relevant meetings as a speaker, facilitator, or panelist, when requested.

This position leads projects as assigned and performs related responsibilities as required.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Participates fully as a member of the Task Force for Global Health by contributing, assisting and participating in projects, activities, and initiatives as requested by management.

TRAVEL: Less than 10% domestic and international travel


A bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing, art or other related field.

Five years of experience in the development of marketing and informational materials, writing/research, project management and/or information technology.

Additional related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Knowledge of publishing and other related software.

Demonstrated creativity in the design of marketing, public relations or educational programs and communications materials.


A medical, public health or information systems background is desirable.

Excellent writing and project management skills and the ability to think creatively and strategically.

Proven success in designing, creating, and implementing communications programs, websites, and related collateral, using various media to reach the intended audience.

Proven ability to work collaboratively, to communicate with diplomacy and tact to encourage cooperation from team and colleagues in order to meet deadlines and objectives, and produce highest quality deliverables on behalf of the Institute.

Proven ability to synthesize information to develop clean communications on highly technical subjects for a variety of target audiences.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home temporarily during the COVID-19 pandemic, with intent to return to an Emory University location in the future. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
