CHAI’s finance team is based out of our Boston office, which provides operational support to programmatic teams working in over 30 countries around the world. Our teams work to improve access to quality health care and focus on a number of different issues and disease areas including, but not limited to HIV, vaccines, malaria, and maternal and newborn health.

This position manages the accounting process for domestic and international offices. Reporting to the Deputy Director of Accounting, the Accountant will have significant responsibility for the maintenance of financial records, audit of financial transactions and production of monthly reports.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations
  • Intercompany reconciliations
  • Prepare monthly preliminary and final financial statements for country teams
  • Analyze monthly variances to budget
  • Assist in the preparation of audits, financial statements and varied fiscal reports
  • Assist in the monthly close process
  • Review accounting documents to ensure accuracy of information and compliance
  • Review monthly cash reports from country teams for accuracy and compliance with accounting principles
  • Reconciliation of monthly bank activity for country teams
  • Preparation of journal entries
  • Review the tabulation, monitoring and distribution of payroll costs to appropriate general ledger accounts
  • Monitor the financial activity on assigned programs and prepares expenditure reports for program managers as needed
  • Prepare and analyze complex financial statements that relate to various fund types and account groups
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Perform other tasks as necessary
  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent plus 3 years work experience; or Advanced Degree or equivalent plus 1 years of work experience; or equivalent total work experience
  • Strong familiarity with financial systems, including but not limited to: Financial Edge, QuickBooks and Excel
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP
  • Dynamic individual with strong managerial, interpersonal, problem-solving, and written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to operate in an unstructured but demanding environment, and demonstrable track record of high performance; high level of independence and motivation required
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently as well as with a team
  • Preferred qualifications:

  • CPA
  • International, non-profit, or US government grant accounting experience
