Project Overview and Role:
The Project Director for PROPEL Adapt is ultimately responsible for all aspects of the activity. This includes but is not limited to ensuring that the project meets all off its deliverables in a timely manner, taking the lead in client communication and interaction; this includes USAID and other USG partners. S/He will provide overall leadership, technical direction, and management to technical and operational staff working globally. The Project Director will also manage partner relationships to ensure that partner contributions are meeting the needs of the project in a coordinated and efficient manner. The Project Director is responsible for overseeing global coordination, so the project is effectively coordinating with other relevant project activities and other stakeholders. The Project Director will also manage project staff by providing direct supervision to senior staff. This position is contingent on funding.
Duration: 5 years (anticipated start in September 2022)
Location: Washington, DC
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides overall leadership, strategic guidance, technical direction, vision, and adaptive management to the overall project
Manages relationship with USAID, ensuring effective communication and client satisfaction
Ensures the strategic and functional integration of all technical areas
Ensures compliance with contractual obligations, producing deliverables and targets, and achieving project results as specified by USAID
Works with other senior leaders on the project team to develop and refine work plans, manage issues and risks, and ensure smooth implementation
Ensures quality control and overall responsiveness of buy-ins implemented under PROPEL Adapt
Provides strategic vision on program sustainability and resilience
Ensures coordination with other local USAID representatives, USG projects, as well as other development partners to promote collaboration, integrated approaches, and complementarity of interventions
Establishes quality control standards in-line with USAID standards
Supervises senior-level project staff
Represents the project to senior policymakers and in professional and donor forums
Required Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in public health, economics, international affairs, public administration, policy, social sciences, law, development studies or related field
Demonstrated history of progressive relevant international development programming experience, including significant experience in senior program management positions, and/or experience managing and leading civil society or similar global donor programs in developing countries
Experience in one or more areas: health financing, health governance, policy development and implementation, CSO engagement and strengthening, evidence generation
Experience implementing programs in FP/RH, MNCH, or HIV. Family Planning experience strongly preferred.
Prior experience working and/or leading complex development projects in fragile settings highly desired
Prior experience in a senior leadership role for a complex health development program. Experience with regional/multi-country/global programs highly desired
Demonstrated capability to lead/supervise a diverse team with different development partners, donors, CSOs and host country government counterparts
Fluency in English
