DescriptionJob Title:Research AssociateReports To:Dean, School of MedicineLocation:Kigali, RwandaJob Type:Full-timeA.Purpose of the JobThis role is to provide high-level research and academic support to the Dean of the School of Medicine of UGHE.The position managesDean’sglobal research portfolio and supports the Deanin advancingthe research agenda through academicwriting, research grants, and scientific engagements.Key ResponsibilitiesManage the progression of all global research studies included in the Dean’s research portfolio and coordinate author teams for scientific writingConduct robust research literature reviews,includingdatabasesearches,to gather enoughevidence-based recommendationstoinform research initiativesforthe Dean’s global research portfolio;Assistin preparing,writing, and editingscientific manuscripts in conjunction withfellow researchersandfacultymembersto facilitate researchactivitiesand contribute to the body of knowledgeManage the shepherding of manuscripts through the publication process, including review of the manuscripts, editingas appropriate,and submittingfor approval;Manage ethics reviewprocessesto enhance UGHE’s compliance with national and international regulations;Write reports and concept notes on all research coordinated for documentation and futurereference.Work in coordination with the other research team to facilitate grant management, research project, reporting, and administrativeduties.Provide support on general writing, speechwriting, scientific editing, and presentation preparation for international engagements in the Office of the Dean,Follow up on global official and academic documents for the Dean to ensure they are available and up to date;Attend and provide support at research meetings and engagements when appropriate throughthepreparation of minutes and reports;Monitor and track documents, international projects, and tasks, ensuring attention to time-sensitive issues and longer-term initiatives and provide succinct background information when needed.Develop and maintain relationships with local and international research partnerswithin the office of the Dean.Assist the facultymembers with the supervisionand mentorshipof studentsDevelop and implement mechanisms to monitor and evaluate the impact of the research projects under the Dean’s portfolio, providing regular updates and recommendations for future research direction.Engage inorganisingand planning scientific conferences onbehalf of the office of the DeanPerform other duties as assigned by the DeanKey DeliverablesQuality management of Dean’s research portfolioTimely and quality preparation of written works, speaking engagements, scientific presentations, teaching engagements etc.Comprehensiveness of reportsand briefs to the DeanAccurateness and ease of reference of documentation at the Dean’s officeQualifications, Knowledge, and Skillsa.Academic qualificationsMaster’s or advanced degree in the health sciences, global health, public health, or other related fieldb.ExperienceAt leastthree(3) years ofexperience working within an international environment with an international organization, NGO (Non-Governmental Organization), public sector, and/or academic settingDemonstrable experience in researchdesign, implementation,and scientific writingTrack record of research and publicationHaving a medical background will be added advantagec.TechnicalcompetenciesExceptional written and oral communication skillsProficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint,reference management tools,andGoogle Drive requiredFamiliarity with research ethics and regulatory requirementsFamiliarity with statistical analysis software preferredFamiliarity withresearch methodology, design,data collection,and ability to interpret data resultsFluency in English requiredDemonstrated ability to manage and prioritize projects with extraordinary attention to detail.Ability to work independently and take initiative;
